Help for human trafficking victims 'streamlined' after workshop
Stakeholders in the fight against human trafficking in Trinidad and Tobago held a workshop at the Cascadia Hotel and Conference Centre, Port of Spain, on March 1 to discuss how to streamline the victim assistance process and bolster victim support mechanisms. The Counter Trafficking Unit (CTU) of the Ministry of National Security collaborated with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to host its first stakeholder workshop themed, “Partnering to Combat Trafficking in Persons.” Read more here

Minister boasts of 500 road, 600 desilting projects in last year
Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan says significant improvements in infrastructure have been taking place under the PNM. He made those comments at a PNM public meeting at Tropical Angel Harps Pan Yard, Enterprise, Chaguanas on Thursday night. Sinanan said over 500 road projects had been undertaken by his ministry since last year. "Every town and country will be connected by feeder roads to a major highway." The penalties of illegal strike action
In last week Thursday's Newsday, there was a full-page article on page nine titled, Give us Salary Increases, which included a colour photo of men wearing Postman’s Union t-shirts. Two were carrying placards and three men in the usual OWTU executive uniforms were up front. I recognised Ozzie Warwick and of course, Ancel Roget. I couldn’t make out the identity of the third man. A very determined David Forbes, secretary general of the Postman’s Union, with a serious expression on his face, chin jutting out, stood in front. Read more here
Republic Bank marks IWD with third business programme
Republic Bank yesterday launched the third cohort of its Entrepreneurs Business Builder (EBB) programme as part of the bank's celebratory initiatives across the region aimed at marking International Women’s Day (IWD) today. In a news release, Republic Bank said that as it did last year, it is looking for 80 Caribbean women entrepreneurs to empower them to build future-proof, profitable and sustainable businesses. The EBB programme, developed and facilitated by Business and People Development Associates (BPD), and made possible through Republic Bank’s Power to Make a Difference programme, was specially crafted with women entrepreneurs in mind. One hundred and eleven women from across Republic Bank’s subsidiary territories successfully graduated from the first two cohorts. Read more here

Guyana on course to having a highly trained, qualified Police Force
THE nation should be proud of the advancements and achievements within the Guyana Police Force (GPF), President Dr Irfaan Ali has said.
At the Police Officers’ Mess Annex in Eve Leary, Georgetown, on Thursday, the Annual Police Officers’ Conference opened with the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces giving the feature address. President Ali, who expressed his admiration and pride in the law enforcement agency, said: “We ought to be very proud of the development in the Guyana Police Force over the last year in human resource development, performance improvement, improvement in productivity, and improvement in results, save and except for the situation on the roadways.” Read more here

MH370: The families haunted by one of aviation's greatest mysteries
For the last decade, two words have haunted Li Eryou - lost contact. It's what Malaysia Airlines told him when flight MH370 disappeared, with his son Yanlin on board. "For years I have been asking what do you mean by 'lost contact'? It seems to me that if you lose contact with someone, you should be able to reconnect with them," Mr Li says.
