Proman invests $4.7m in Habitat for Humanity
For the third time, methanol and ammonia producer Proman has partnered with Habitat for Humanity TT, this time investing $4.7 million in the organisation over the next three years. Proman and Habitat announced the three-year renewal of their partnership on Friday in a news release. Read more here

Kamla promises free and fair internal elections
Amidst claims of a rigged polls, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is promising a free and fair June 26 internal party elections. She said the United National Congress (UNC) is a democratic party and every member is eligible to contest, but there are rules which govern the election and must be followed to ensure free and fair elections. Trade Ministry: No Flour Shortage
There is absolutely no shortage of flour and neither is there any looming shortage, the Ministry of Trade and Industry said yesterday. Responding “directly to the possible shortage of flour as noted by Sheik Lisha” in yesterday’s Sunday Express, the ministry said in a media release that Sheik Lisha imports flour from Turkey and their market share and those of other importers collectively are under one per cent of local sales. Small-business conference to put focus on ‘turning setbacks into comebacks’
In an effort to expand the reach of the local private sector, the Together We Win Business Network (TWWBN) will be launching its first annual Small Business Conference and Exhibition on July 15 – 17, 2022, at MovieTowne Guyana. The conference and ‘expo’ will be held under the theme, “Run Together, Win Together: Turning Setbacks into Comebacks”. Ukraine war: Evidence shows widespread use of cluster munitions in Kharkiv
Russia has killed hundreds of civilians in the north-eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv using indiscriminate shelling and widely-banned cluster munitions, according to new research by Amnesty International. Amnesty said it had found evidence of Russian forces repeatedly using 9N210/9N235 cluster bombs, as well as "scatterable" munitions - rockets that eject smaller mines that explode later at timed intervals. The BBC visited five separate impact sites in residential neighbourhoods in Kharkiv and saw evidence of a distinctive, symmetrical spalling effect associated with cluster munitions. We showed images from the sites to three weapons experts, who all said the impacts were consistent with the controversial weapons. Read more here
