Rowley defends Jindal: PNM doing best for Trinidad and Tobago's future

The Prime Minister on June 26 defended the visit to TT of Indian steel and energy magnate Naveen Jindal – with a possible interest in buying the Pointe-a-Pierre refinery – after opposition complaints the businessman was facing bribery charges in India. Dr Rowley was addressing a Breakfast with the Prime Minister event at the Hyatt Regency, Port of Spain, held as a fundraiser for the ruling People's National Movement (PNM) and attended by businessmen, MPs, councillors and visiting Indian businessmen. He justified mothballing the refinery as it was a liability that could have bankrupted the country and then poured scorn on a local offer made whereby the government was asked to provide funding for the purchase. Rowley: Attempts to block foreign investment in T&T

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley says he finds it strange that the same people who continuously chastise his Government for not generating enough direct foreign investment are now the ones who have a problem with Indian businessman Naveen Jindal expressing interest in the mothballed Petrotrin refinery at Pointe-a-Pierre refinery. The PM made the comment while speaking to attendees of his $1,200-a-plate Breakfast with the Prime Minister at the Hyatt Regency, Port-of-Spain, yesterday. His statement seemed to be a direct response to the Opposition and Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union challenge of Government engaging Indian businessman Naveen Jindal, who has expressed an interest in the Petrotrin refinery. Big stakes and high tension as Biden-Trump debate looms

When Donald Trump and Joe Biden take to the debate stage on Thursday night, it will be a reunion of sorts – although not exactly a friendly one. A current president has never before debated his predecessor, and the bad blood between these two men will be obvious on the CNN debate stage in Atlanta. Trump never conceded the 2020 election to President Biden and days after his supporters attacked the US Capitol, he broke with tradition by refusing to attend his opponent’s inauguration. The two men are now facing off again for the presidency and this debate will mark the first time in this election campaign that millions of Americans are sitting up and paying attention.
