CWU to discuss restructuring with TSTT Tuesday
Secretary general of the Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) Clyde Elder has said the union met with Minister of Public Utilities Marvin Gonzales on December 6, and offered ideas to save TSTT. At a news conference on Monday, Elder said the union will be meeting with TSTT on Tuesday to discuss the planned restructuring of the company. In a media release on January 17, TSTT said it invited trade unions representing its workers to a meeting to discuss a restructuring exercise. Read more here
Mt D’or residents stage unlawful J’Ouvert
Hundreds of Mt D’or residents broke COVID-19 regulations early Sunday morning for a J’Ouvert-type street party that went on for hours before police responded. The party involved the use of paint, mud and disc-jockeys using loud public address systems, similar to any Carnival event. Video of the event showed the hundreds of people crammed within the narrow streets while dancing and singing to what is popularly known as ‘Trinibad” songs. Other videos later showed residents running along the road and dashing into yards after police eventually arrived. Read more here

PM tells public servants: Make people's lives easier
The Prime Minister is urging top public servants to embrace technology to improve people's lives, the public service, and the economy. He was addressing a Public Sector Leadership for Digital Transformation workshop at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Port of Spain, on Monday. "I want to challenge every leader in this room to dream and envision what we can offer to our fellow citizens, to make their lives easier and your lives easier too," said Dr Rowley. Read more here

T&T Chamber praises Faria’s contribution
Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce yesterday paid tribute to Gabriel Faria, on the last day of his service as CEO of the organisation. In a news release, the T&T Chamber said from his appointment as CEO in 2016, he ushered in a period of heightened collaboration with local and regional Chambers and business groups, and opened up several avenues for interaction with young businessmen and innovators who needed a platform to be heard and recognised. CGX finds oil in commercial quantities at Kawa-1 well
Less than two months after encountering hydrocarbons at the Kawa-1 well in the Corentyne Block, offshore Guyana, CGX Energy Inc. has announced that its drilling campaign has produced greater results. The company, in a press statement on Monday, announced that the Kawa-1 well encountered approximately 177 feet (54 metres) of hydrocarbon-bearing reservoirs within Maastrichtian, Campanian and Santonian horizons based on initial evaluation of Logging While Drilling (LWD) data. Russia-Ukraine tensions: Zelensky praises allied response
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has praised Western backing in the face of Russia's military build-up and announced an expansion of the army. "Support for Ukraine is the biggest since 2014," he told MPs ahead of visits by British, Polish and Dutch leaders. Top US and Russian officials are due to hold fresh talks on the crisis. Mr Zelensky also said a new "format of political co-operation" was being created with the UK and Poland. Read more here
