Met Office: Don’t be complacent
The Meteorological Office at Piarco is advising the country not to become complacent because the weather seems to have mellowed since the yellow alert issued on Sunday. Senior meteorological officer Saide Shakeer said while the weather may have changed from rain and is now hot, this was the weather needed for thunderstorms. Read more here
‘Hero’ homeowner shot dead in St Ann’s
The usually subdued residential St Ann’s community recoiled in horror on Monday after a would-be robber shot dead a resident who wrestled with a gunman who attempted to storm a house. Residents said the murder of Mathew De Silva was part of a trend of violent crime affecting the once safe community located a short distance away from the Prime Minister’s official residence. De Silva, 36, was at the home of a friend along Hutton Road playing a game of cards when an armed intruder walked into the house after his friend’s girlfriend arrived around 2 am. According to police, De Silva, who was confronted by the armed man, attempted to overpower him. During the struggle, the gun went off and De Silva was shot several times. Read more here

UNC MP: ‘PM, take over national security’
Naparima MP Rodney Charles has alleged that ayear after his appointment as national security minister, Stuart Young has proven "amongst the worst performing national security ministers in our history." He called on the Prime Minister to do "the patriotic thing and assume responsibility for national security" or appoint a more qualified and experienced person. Charles reiterated the UNC's call for Dr Rowley to call a general election now, given the hopelessness in the population about the crime problem. Read more here

NCB Global Finance gets good credit rating
NCB Global Finance Limited (NCBGF) has announced that Caribbean Information & Credit Rating Services Limited (CariCRIS) has assigned to it an initial Issuer/Corporate Credit Rating of CariA (Foreign and Local Currency) on the regional rating scale, and ttA on the T&T national scale. According to NCBGF, these ratings indicate that the level of creditworthiness of NCBGF, adjudged in relation to other obligors within T&T and the Caribbean, is good. Read more here

143 Persons Set To Get National Honours
Tamar Blake, who raised an alarm when a woman tried to register a baby snatched from the Victoria Jubilee Hospital in January, is among more than 100 Jamaicans appointed to the various orders of societies of honour and given badges of honour this year. Blake has been bestowed with the Badge of Honour for Gallantry for an act of courage and bravery in ensuring the safe return of an abducted infant, Sae’breon Hutton. The newborn was stolen from the Kingston hospital on January 9, prompting a police manhunt for the baby snatcher and the infant. Read more here

Dayton shooter appeared to have leftist Twitter feed
A Twitter account that appears to belong to Dayton mass shooter Connor Bettsretweeted extreme left-wing and anti-police posts, as well as tweets supporting Antifa, or anti-fascist, protesters. The most recent tweet on the @iamthespookster account was on August 3, the day of the shooting, when he retweeted a post saying, "Millenials have a message for the Joe Biden generation: hurry up and die." He also retweeted messages supporting Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. The user's Twitter bio reads: "he/him / anime fan / metalhead / leftist / I'm going to hell and I'm not coming back."
