Education Ministry happy about CAPE, CSEC performance
THE Education Ministry was happy over the improvement in performances by students who sat this year's Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations.
In a statement on Monday, the ministry said 7, 597 candidates (2,989 boys and 4 608 girls) were registered for CAPE Unit One and Unit Two examinations this year, for 33 Unit One and 30 Unit Two subjects. Read more…
TTUTA claims victory on opening day boycott
The Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA) has claimed victory following its day of “rest and reflection” yesterday.
Educators were asked to stay away from classes on what was the start of the new academic year yesterday and after the day ended, TTUTA president Antonia Tekah-Defreitas told Guardian Media the call was resoundingly heeded. Read more….

Manning dismisses Tancoo's call for apology
MINISTER in the Ministry of Finance Brian Manning has dismissed a call from Oropouche West MP Dave Tancoo for him to apologise for not standing still while the national anthem was played at the opening of an event held by the ministry last week.

Proman commits to spend US$1.1b
PRIME Minister Dr Keith Rowley and Energy Minister Stuart Young met yesterday with chief executive officer of Proman, David Cassidy, and his executive team at the energy company’s headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, yesterday.
A post on the Office of the Prime Minister’s (OPM) Facebook page yesterday described Trinidad and Tobago as a key centre of Proman’s operations with 14 petrochemical plants owned and operated there with 1,100 employees, which is 67 per cent of the group’s global headcount.
Mac Lean is new ANSA Coating GM
Nicholas Mac Lean has been appointed as General Manager of ANSA Coatings Limited. In a notice, Ansa Mcal Chief Executive Officer Anthony N. Sabga III announced Mac Lean’s appointment to the position took effect last Thursday, September 1st, 2022.
Mac Lean joined the ANSA McAL Group as a Division Manager at Abel Building Solutions (ABS) and has since held various positions in commercial roles, most recently, as the Regional Sales Manager at ANSA Construction. Read more…
Scrap iron group writes to WTO boss
The Scrap Iron Dealers Association of T&T has written a letter to the director general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala seeking the organisation’s intervention in the current six-month ban on scrap metal exports in Trinidad and Tobago.
Allan Ferguson, the president of the association in a news release yesterday said this country has been a member of the WTO since March 1995 which means it is required to adhere to the guidelines and policies of the organisation. Read more…

Typhoon Hinnamnor wreaks devastation along South Korea coast
Fearing landslides and floods, officials evacuated about 3,500 people ahead of the storm, which made landfall in the island city of Geoje.
It then churned at a 54km/hr pace northwards, whipping up surf and driving heavy rains and floods. No casualties have been reported but a 25-year-old man in Ulsan remains missing, authorities say. Read more…
