Bandit shot dead during attempted robbery
A daylight robbery was foiled when two bandits believed to be in their early 20s from Longdenville and Rio Claro respectively were shot by security guards as they attempted to rob Savi’s Classic Jewelry located on the corner of Noel Street and Southern Main Road, Couva on Tuesday.
One of the bandits from Longdenville was fatally shot in his upper body and died at the store while the other was rushed to the Couva District Health Facility for treatment for bullet wound to his lower legs. Read more here…

Tobago entrepreneurs step up at TIC 2019
TIC is one of the largest business to business events in the Caribbean, with 300 businesses from 29 countries represented this year.
Some 18 businesses from Tobago were on display this year, which, according to Trisha Beckles, the Tobago House of Assembly’s (THA) manager of strategic business development, is the largest contingent in the 13 years the THA has been participating in the event. Read more here…

AN ATTORNEY representing a shareholder of CL Financial has written to the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr Alvin Hilaire, noting “with acute concern,” the failure of the financial regulator to publish the 2018 audited financials of CLICO, an insurance subsidiary of CL Financial by June 30, 2019. Imbert approves VAT deal for Paria
Motorists will not benefit from a decision by the Ministry of Finance to exempt Paria Fuels Trading company from paying more than $382 million in Value Added Tax.
Finance Minister Colm Imbert confirmed that he had given approval for the newly minted State enterprise not to pay VAT to Government on fuel it had imported and in a whatsap message told Guardian Media that there is no relationship between VAT on imported fuel and on VAT being paid at the pump. Brazil's Vale ordered to pay compensation for dam disaster
The collapse was Brazil's worst industrial accident. The judge did not set a figure for the compensation but said that the company was responsible for fixing all the damages including the economic effects.
At least 248 people were killed as a sea of mud engulfed a staff canteen, offices and nearby farms. Twenty-two people are still missing following the collapse of the Feijão dam on 25 January. Read more here…
Kim Darroch, UK ambassador to US, resigns after Trump cables leak
Britain's ambassador to the United States, Kim Darroch, has resigned after a series of leaked diplomatic cables revealed he had told 10 Downing Street that the Trump administration was"inept" and "clumsy."
The resignation, announced by the UK Foreign Office on Wednesday, came after US President Donald Trump said Monday that the White House would no longer deal with Darroch. Read more here…
