Brother Resistance dies
Lutalo Masimba, President of the Trinbago Unified Calysonians Organisation (TUCO), popularly known as Brother Resistance, passed away on Tuesday night. Condolences were sent out to family, friends and the Calypso/Rapso Family. Masimba born in 1954, was well known for pioneering the Rapso music movement in the 1970s, which led to the formation of the Network Rapso Riddum Band. The band brought out their debut album “Busting Out” in 1981, and Brother Resistance became one of the Trinidad’s best known rapso performers. Read more here
‘Help is coming’
Help is coming for a family of 17 who lost all their possessions when a rainstorm hit La Horquetta last week. Among them are seven children. Yesterday afternoon, Member of Parliament for La Horquetta/Talparo Foster Cummings and Minister of Social Development and Family Services Donna Cox met with Alexis Ramdhanee and members of her family. They gave Ramdhanee and her family the assurance that they would be receiving aid from the State. Read more here

Haynes: Talks on schools should be held before guidelines drafted
MP for Tabaquite Anita Haynes has said the Ministry of Education should have consulted with stakeholders before the draft guide to the reopening of schools was drawn up. In a statement, Haynes called on the ministry to “embark on genuine good-faith consultations with stakeholders.” The statement came after the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA) and the National Primary Schools Principals’ Association (NAPSPA) boycotted a meeting with the ministry on Monday. FTC deliberating on Agostini’s acquisition
Competition regulator, the Fair Trading Commission (FTC) is hosting stakeholder consultations this week on Agostini’s Ltd’s proposed acquisition in the energy services sector. The acquisition involves Agostini’s Ltd and its subsidiary Rosco Petroavance Ltd seeking to buy 100 per cent of Process Components Ltd, a company owned by directors of Laughlin & DeGannes. Both companies import and service equipment for the energy sector. FTC executive director, Bevan Narinesingh, said on Monday that the Commission only recently received the completed merger application. Read more here

400 house lots distributed in Linden
With 400 house lots to be distributed and 144 land titles and transports to be issued by the end of today, the Housing Authority commenced their massive ‘Dream Realised’ housing drive in Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Region 10, on Tuesday. The exercise marks the largest land allocation in the region over the past five years. The two-day event is being held at the Amelia’s Ward Primary School. Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal and Minister within The Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues, will continue their work on the ground today, along with managers and staff of the agencies assisting members of the public. Cuba protests: Frustration at government runs deep
Cuba's communist rulers and state-controlled media are alleging that anti-government protests that swept across the island on Sunday were "organised and financed" from the United States, and egged on by a "perverse" and co-ordinated communications campaign on social media. "There was no social uprising," Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez was quoted by the Communist Party daily Granma as saying. "There were riots, disorder, caused by a communications operation that has been prepared for some time, to which multi-million dollar resources have been destined: laboratories, technological platforms [backed] with funds of the United States government."
